Shopping Cart Cover Store Family Shares Our FAVORITE
Fun Kids Crafts Recipes
I hope you have fun with these recipes.  We have had great success with all of them.  If you have a craft recipe you would like to share please email them to shopping cart cover webmaster.  Most of the recipes are made with things you probably already have in your pantry, if not the rest can be picked up at the grocery store.  (The perfect opportunity to use your new baby shopping cart cover. LOL ) These recipes are great for entertaining you children on rainy days or for parties.  We have made up several of these and put into cute containers and handmade cards for birthday and party favor gifts.  Some of the recipes are baby (toddler appropriate) you'll have to use your best judgment as to which would be best suited for your family.
Poppy's Colorful Play Dough
1 c. salt
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. oil
A few drops of food coloring optional
Mix thoroughly and store in plastic bags.  My kids love to cut into shapes with cookie cutters.  If you leave it out, it will dry pretty hard and older children can paint thier masterpiece.

Silly Bubbles
1/4 c. liquid dish soap
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. cooking oil
We mix ours in an old coffee can.  Then I pour into little dixie cups and give each kid a straw to make the bubbles.

Fun flour & water finger paints
1 c. flour
1 c. water
2 tsp. salt
food color
Mix to consistency of thick gravy. Spoon a small amount into plastic bowls for several different colors  or for each child to have thier own.  Then stand back....Very messy but SO much fun and very inexpensive way to be creative.

Madelines Soap Crayons
These make bath time so much fun!
Mild powdered laundry soap
Food coloring
Ice cube trays
Water
Add about 1 cup of the powdered laundry soap to bowl. Slowly add water by the teaspoon until it becomes a thick liquid mixture. Stir well and begin adding food coloring until it is the color you like. Pour into ice cube trays or other small mold. Set in a sunny, dry spot for a few days to allow crayons to harden. When hard, remove from mold and use!

Nana's Chocolate Finger Paint
1 (4 oz.) pkg. instant chocolate pudding & pie filling
2 c. cold milk
Put pudding mix and milk in a medium size bowl.  Beat with electric mixer at low speed for two minutes.  Let set until it thickens.  Finger paint on white construction paper and let dry for several hours.  Now it's ready to hang up.

Mom's Homemade Paste
1 c. flour
1/2 c. water
Combine above and mix until creamy.  Store in air tight container.  For more durable paste, add 1/2 cup flour to 1 cup boiling water.  Stir over low heat until thick and shiny.

Drews FAVORITE -- SILLY  PUTTY

1 c. Elmer's glue
2 1/2 c. liquid starch
Food coloring
In a medium bowl, mix glue and one cup of the starch together.  Add a few drops of food coloring, if you wish. Cover bowl, and let it stand overnight.  The next day slowly stir in with a spoon 1 to 1 1/2 cups of the starch until a big blob forms.  Pour off extra starch.  Store in an air tight container.

Dad's Funny Face Make-up
2 tsp. white shortening
5 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. white flour
4 drops glycerin (found at your pharmacy)
Few drops of food coloring
In a small bowl, mix shortening, cornstarch and white flour.  Add four drops of glycerin.  Stir to a creamy consistency.  Add any food coloring that you wish.  For brown makeup, add 2 1/2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa instead of food coloring and you're all set.

Mary-Margaret's GIANT  SOAP  BUBBLES

Cold, clear water
Wire coat hanger
Frying pan
Glycerin (available at drugstores)
Joy or Dawn detergent
Bend a coat hanger into a loop.  Mix 1/2 cup detergent with 5 cups water.  Measure carefully, it does make a difference.  Stir well.  Add two tablespoons of glycerin. The Glycerin makes more durable bubbles.  Just dip the coat hanger loop into the solution then wave it into the air.  (Don't throw away any solution you didn't use - store it for next time.  As it "ages", it gets even better!)

Allison's Favorite CINNAMON  ORNAMENTS

No baking and simple for kids!  Mix 1 cup of applesauce with 1 (4.12 ounce) bottle of ground cinnamon.  Should form a stiff dough, add cinnamon as needed.  Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness.  Cut with cookie cutter.  Make hole for ribbon.  Carefully put on rack to dry.  Let air dry several days turning occasionally.  Makes about 12 sweet smelling ornaments.

Aunties EDIBLE  FINGER  PAINTS

Mix baby rice cereal with water and instant pudding or jello for color.  This is BIG fun and another wicked messy (but yummy) creative project.

In a separate bowl, mix one cup of warm water and the borax powder until the borax dissolves. Slowly pour the borax mixture into the glue mixture and stir for 2-3 minutes. Turn the mixture out onto a counter and knead the sticky mixture until it's smooth and stretches easily. Goop can be stored in an airtight container.out 1 hour until chalk is hard.  Firmly tap out container.

My Favorite Rainbow Crayons

Old crayons (bits and pieces)
Muffin pans
Muffin cup liners or "non-stick" spray
Peel crayons.  Line/spray muffin pan.  Put crayon pieces in muffin cups.  Separate colors for single color chunks.  Mix colors for rainbow ones.  Bake at 200 degrees until melted.  Cool, peel off liners if used.  I cannot tell you how many times I have made these for parties only to be asked by parents, "Where can I buy more".  Everyone loves these!

Side Walk Chalk #2
1 1/2 cups of warm water
3 1/2 cups of Plaster Patch (usually at home depot type stores)
6 tablespoons of washable tempera paint
Toilet paper tubes or paper towel tubes cut into 6" lengths
Large plastic mixing bowls - one for each color of chalk
Masking Tape
Use the masking tape to cover one each of each paper tube. Pour the warm water into a mixing bowl. Stir in Plaster Patch until the mixture is the consistency of sour cream. Add tempera paint powder to the plaster mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the plaster mixture into the paper tubes. Gently tap the tubes to remove any air bubbles. Let the chalk dry in the tubes for about two days. Tear the paper from around the chalk.  These also have been very popular gifts.
